Oklahoma football: Jaz Reynolds said season-long suspension has been a 'good reflecting moment'

“I don't worry about it. I'm completely not worried about next season. I'm pretty sure I'll be out there like normal.”

Thursday evening, Reynolds and defensive backs Quentin Hayes and Trey Franks represented the football team at Jefferson Elementary School, which hosted a Sooner Jr. event promoting fitness, academics, nutrition and sportsmanship.

Just another step in the right direction for the trio, all of whom were indefinitely suspended last May for unspecified team rules violations and missed the 2012 season.

“It's a good reflecting moment,” Reynolds said. “You've gotta get yourself together and everything.

“I never lost sense of being on the team. This definitely helps.”

Reynolds, Hayes and Franks were three of the 20-plus Oklahoma student-athletes and coaches who volunteered at Thursday's event, which included representatives from the OU baseball, volleyball, rowing and men's basketball teams.

Just after spring football practices ended last year, all three were suspended — along with receiver Kameel Jackson, who was ultimately dismissed entirely — leaving the Sooner receiving corps in what appeared at the time to be critical condition.

Reynolds was OU's third-leading receiver as a sophomore, grabbing 41 passes for 715 yards and five touchdowns. The same year, Franks was OU's top kick returner, while also catching 22 passes for 196 yards.

Franks and Hayes, a sophomore, each redshirted during their suspensions, and Franks was switched to defense; Reynolds' redshirt season came in 2010, but only after he was suspended for tweeting insensitive comments regarding a gunman at the University of Texas during OU/Texas week.
