Oklahoma football: Julian Wilson the favorite at cornerback

Wilson has started 13 career games over the past two years at dimeback and nickelback, but played corner in high school at Southmoore.

Based on interviews with players and coaches, it would appear senior Julian Wilson is now the clear favorite to start at the vacant cornerback spot opposite Zack Sanchez.

Wilson has started 13 career games over the past two years at dimeback and nickelback, but played corner in high school at Southmoore.

“He's picked it up really well,” Sanchez said. “He played it in high school, so it wasn't all new to him. “He's an athletic guy and he's smart as well, so his technique and things like that are always on point so it was really easy for him to pick it up.”

Wilson said he’s still competing with junior Cortez Johnson and sophomores Dakota Austin and Stanvon Taylor for the spot, and isn’t taking anything for granted until coaches name a starter.

KNIGHT: SHEPARD CAPABLE OF MOVE OUTSIDE

Junior receiver Sterling Shepard is expected to work as an outside receiver this fall after spending his first two seasons in the slot.

Shepard, the most experienced returning wide receiver, is “one of those few guys that’s capable of playing on the inside and on the outside,” said quarterback Trevor Knight.
