Oklahoma football: New York Jets draft receiver Jalen Saunders in the fourth round

by Jason Kersey Published: May 10, 2014

The New York Jets selected former Oklahoma wide receiver Jalen Saunders with the fourth pick of the fourth round (104th overall) in the NFL Draft on Saturday morning.

Saunders began his collegiate career at Fresno State, and transferred to OU after his sophomore season. The NCAA approved his waiver request for immediate eligibility four games into the 2012 season, and after that, Saunders caught 123 passes for 1,558 yards and 11 touchdowns in his two seasons as a Sooner.

Combined with his two years at Fresno, Saunders caught 203 passes for 3,085 yards and 26 touchdowns as a college football player.

Saunders is also an impressive punt returner. He returned three punts for touchdowns as a Sooner, including one in each of Oklahoma’s Bedlam victories the past two seasons.

Saunders became the first OU player to be drafted in 2014.

It is the first time in the Bob Stoops era — and the first time at OU since 1997 — that an Oklahoma player wasn’t drafted in the first three rounds.
