On cue from a few feet away, Ndulue disagreed.

“Yes, he is,” Tapper continued. “I told you Chuka wouldn’t like that.”

Tapper also spoke highly of freshman defensive end Dwayne Orso.

“He’s just like me,” Tapper said. “He came in here raw and hasn’t lifted a weight.”

After playing sparingly as a freshman as he bulked up, Tapper broke out last year to become one of the stars on the defensive line.

Louisiana Tech coach Skip Holtz will be calling the plays for the Bulldogs this season, starting with Saturday’s game in Norman.

Last year, Tech had the 94th-ranked offense in the country.

“My background is on the offensive side of the ball, and where I can most help this football team right now is taking over a little bit more of the big-picture offensive scheme things and letting Tony (Petersen, the Bulldogs’ offensive coordinator) really climb in to those quarterbacks because he’s got a full-time job trying to get four guys ready to play,” Holtz told the Monroe (La.) News Star on Saturday.

Holtz will announce is starting quarterback — either Cody Sokol or Ryan Higgins — on Monday.
