Oklahoma football notebook: OU loses offensive lineman Daryl Williams to knee injury

Stoops said he is unsure when Williams will return but will likely miss the remainder of the regular season. Williams might ready for a bowl game.

The sprain occurred on Oklahoma's seventh play of the game vs. West Virginia, when quarterback Landry Jones handed the ball off to Damien Williams. During the run, Daryl Williams' leg looked like it got caught from behind and curled. Daryl Williams was then replaced by Tyrus Thompson, who is regularly the backup left tackle.

The loss of Daryl Williams is OU's fourth on the offensive line this season, including Ben Habern (neck), Tyler Evans (ACL tear) and Nila Kasitati (ACL tear).

There isn't a single starting offensive lineman who has made it through the season healthy.

Stoops said Thompson will replace Daryl Williams, but Sooners fans could see a shifting of linemen that includes freshman Ty Darlington at center and current center Gabe Ikard switched out to guard.

QUARTERBACK EARNS BIG 12 HONORS

Landry Jones was named as the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week after the senior quarterback helped the Sooners to a last-minute touchdown to beat West Virginia, 50-49. This is the first week this season that Jones earned the honor, but it is his sixth selection in his career.

Jones is the first OU player selected this season.

Jones, a senior from Artesia, N.M., set a school record Saturday against West Virginia when he threw for 554 yards. He held the previous record of 504 yards, which he set in 2011 against Kansas State. The senior quarterback also threw for six touchdowns — four to junior wide receiver Kenny Stills. Jones' TDs tied a previous school record of six, which Jones set against Tulsa in 2009.
