NORMAN — Oklahoma senior running back Damien Williams led the Sooners with a season-high 97 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries in Saturday's 38-30 victory over Texas Tech.
After the game, Williams spoke to reporters about his season so far, the game plan against Texas Tech and the Sooners' next game at Baylor:
Q: You guys were able to really impose your will on them on the first drive of the second half. Is that what you were looking to do out of halftime?
A: That's exactly what we wanted to do. We wanted to get after those guys. We wanted to make it a rough, physical game for them. We practiced that and that's exactly what happened out there.
Were you encouraged that you could still move the ball effectively without Trey Millard in the fourth quarter?
Everybody on this team has scholarships. Everybody comes in here to compete, so you know, the next guy has to be ready. That next guy has a scholarship as well. You know, losing Trey, it hurt. But we have to keep pushing. We have to keep pushing for us and for him.
How do you feel about the team going into your next game at Baylor?
I just feel like we've gotta go out there and we have to start fast. We have to start fast and we have to finish the fourth quarter. That's what we emphasize throughout the week.
