As impressive as the on-the-field efforts of Tony Jefferson, Kenny Stills and Brennan Clay have been, just as important might be the role the “Cali Trio” has taken in helping bring recruits aboard.

One of the fruits of those efforts is Inglewood, Calif., wide receiver Derrick Woods.

Woods played quarterback for Inglewood this season but is expected to at least start at wide receiver in Norman. He might wind up being shifted to safety if there is a need there.

“I just want to play,” Woods told Rivals.com just before his commitment when asked about the possibility of playing defense in Norman. “I mean if it comes down to it, maybe I could do it but I'm more comfortable at receiver and that's what I'd like to play. We'll figure that out, though.”

Despite being from California, offers from USC, UCLA, Cal and Stanford couldn't keep him in his home state. He also had offers from Alabama and Miami (Fla.) among others before settling on Oklahoma.

“I just felt that Oklahoma was the right place for me,” Woods told Rivals. “Talking to my friends, I told them, ‘Yeah, it's far from home but it's another home for me.' I felt like I could be comfortable and that I made the right decision.”
