TULSA — Oklahoma commit Dominique Alexander woke up and acted like Wednesday was a normal day.

He said he knows in order to make the Sooners proud, he needs to continue to work.

That's why at 6:30 a.m., the Tulsa Washington defensive star hit the gym, despite it being college sports' biggest holiday — National Signing Day.

By 7:30 a.m., Alexander, who was told by coaches Mike and Bob Stoops that he will be playing linebacker for Oklahoma, was back home and getting ready for school.

At 3 p.m., the Sooners' commit walked into his high school's field house wearing a black dress shirt and crimson vest and an OU hat. He smiled as members of the crowd shouted his name and snapped photos.

Then he signed a piece of paper with an OU emblem 11 times while the media shot videos and photos.

“That's my number,” Alexander said.

But when he was asked to give his new school's traditional chant, he downplayed the act.

“Just say ‘Boomer' and see what you get back,' a cameraman told him.

“No sir, the people here like Oklahoma State,” he said.

Including his father, Derrick Sr., who played for Oklahoma State. He tried to help recruit his son for Oklahoma State, but Dominique grew up a Sooner fan. Then, Derrick Sr. said, the Cowboys coaches didn't try to recruit him.
