With no returning tight ends, McNamara's immediate presence trumped a quarterback.

Knight will likely redshirt, watching the school's leading passer, Landry Jones, go through his final season. It remains to be seen whether Knight could progress enough to compete with Drew Allen or Blake Bell for the position in 2013.

Knight, 6 foot 3 and 195 pounds, originally committed to Texas A&M in March, but changed course and pointed himself toward OU in July. The sixth-rated dual-threat quarterback in the country, according to Rivals, also had offers from Louisiana State, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Clemson and TCU.
