Not long ago, defensive tackle looked like the clear weak point in Oklahoma's 2013 recruiting class.

Saturday night, though, the Sooners picked up their third commitment at the position in the last month when South Garland (Texas) lineman Charles Walker committed to the Sooners.

Walker (6-foot-4, 280 pounds) announced his decision on Twitter. “I committed to OU SOONER NATION,” Walker tweeted.

In December, the Sooners added tackles Kerrick Huggins and Quincy Russell after not having a commitment at the position up to that point.

Huggins switched his commitment from Texas A&M, and Russell is a junior-college product that has already signed.

Walker picked the Sooners over a group that included Colorado State, Houston, New Mexico and North Texas, though Baylor also recently began showing interest.

With tackles Casey Walker, Stacy McGee and Jamarkus McFarland having exhausted their eligibility, the position was one of need for OU in this recruiting class.

The commitment is a solid start to a big recruiting weekend for the Sooners, who were expected to have at least seven official visitors over the weekend.

The Sooners had a junior day for 2014 recruits planned for the weekend before postponing that event earlier in the week to concentrate on the 2013 class.

Walker's commitment is nonbinding. He can sign beginning Feb. 6.
