Oklahoma football report card: High marks all around for the Sooners

Good grades all the way around after Oklahoma's 52-7 rout of Kansas — except for the Jayhawk.

LANDRY JONES: A

The Oklahoma quarterback was sharp from start to finish. He completed his first four passes, and it would've been five if not for Trey Millard dropping a sure touchdown. Even though Jones wasn't perfect, missing on a couple throws, he finished the game 20 of 29 for 300 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions.

DEFENSE: A

Not much of a letdown after the big win against Texas. Sure, Kansas actually mustered two first downs on its first possession — Texas didn't have a first down until more than five minutes into the second quarter — but the Jayhawk offense never drove past midfield in the first half.

FOCUS: A

The outcome of this game was never in doubt, but how well the Sooners would play was a question. Would there be a Texas hangover? Would there be a Notre Dame look ahead? Negative on both counts. OU committed just one turnover, limited Kansas to 3.6 yards a play, and committed no penalties in the first half, finishing with only three.

DUPLICATE NUMBERS: F

Having guys wear duplicate numbers is always annoying, but Saturday, it was costly. When receiver Jalen Saunders (No. 14) came in to return punts in the second half, cornerback Aaron Colvin (No. 14) was also on the field. An illegal participation penalty gave Kansas a first down. C'mon, folks, there are enough numbers to go around.

ATMOSPHERE: A

There might be nicer nights for football. Then again, there might not. Warm at kickoff. Pleasant by halftime. Trees changing color. It was a perfect fall football Saturday.
