Oklahoma football report card: High marks for Trevor Knight's running, Sooners' defense

The Oklahoma quarterback showed off his wheels early, scrambling for 24 yards and making it look easy. It was a sign of things to come. He finished with a team-high 103 yards on 13 carries and clearly gives the Sooners an offensive dimension that they haven't had for several years.

When your head coach tells everyone repeatedly what a great arm you have, everyone expects big things. Instead, Knight was off much of the night, especially early. His first pass went long of the intended receiver. His third sailed high. His fourth went low. Sure, he was a redshirt freshman making his first start, but the passes he misfired were largely easy throws. Even though he improved dramatically after halftime, he finished the game 11 of 28 for 86 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

After struggling to disrupt much of anything late in the season a year ago, the Sooners brought pressure from all sorts of places, using their new three-man front to cause confusion and disguise where the pressure would come from.

Remember when the place kicking duties were a weekly adventure for the Sooners? Or when getting a touchback on a kickoff required a hurricane-force wind? Those days seem long gone. Michael Hunnicutt hit all of his extra points and nailed two field goals, including one from 41 yards, and Nick Hodgson put all seven of his kickoffs into the end zone for touchbacks.
