Oklahoma picked up its first linebacker commit for the 2014 class Tuesday when Tay Evans of Allen, Texas, committed during a visit to Norman.
He announced his commitment on Twitter, posting “So ... just committed to the University of Oklahoma.” He followed that up with “Boomer” hashtag.
Evans' father, Bobby Joe, played basketball for the Sooners from 1996-98.
Evans (6-foot-3, 202 pounds) is the 11th commitment for the Sooners and the fifth from Texas.
Evans, an outside linebacker, was offered in June but wanted to wait to commit until visiting the campus.
He got that chance Tuesday, stopping in Norman during a trip to visit family in the state.
Evans picked the Sooners over Stanford, Arizona State and Oregon State.
Rivals.com rates Evans as a three-star prospect.
His high school teammate, fellow outside linebacker and good friend, Christian Sam, also has an offer from Oklahoma.
Evans' brother, Bobby Evans, is a 2015 tight end recruit that has received interest from the Sooners. The younger Evans already has offers from Ole Miss and Oregon State.
The commitment is non-binding. Evans can sign beginning Feb. 5.
