Oklahoma football: Sooners have done well despite preseason question marks

Coach Bob Stoops and quarterback Landry Jones are right. This is a different year and a different team.

Know how Bob Stoops and Landry Jones say over and over that this is a different year and a different team?

Well, Oklahoma's leader and gunslinger are right.

Last year, Jones was touchdown-less in a post-Ryan Broyles era. (He threw one touchdown to Jaz Reynolds in that Texas A&M game that ended Broyles' Oklahoma career.) People were wondering if Jones could really throw a touchdown to anyone else.

A year later, with no Ryan Broyles in any OU game, Jones has thrown a total of 16 touchdowns to players with the last names of Stills, Shepard, Brown, Green, Metoyer and Millard.

Now, Landry Jones' wide receiver story is all about the options. There's the Jalen Saunders option or the Durron Neal option. Heck, there are even Brennan Clay and Roy Finch options after Saturday.

In Oklahoma's 35-20 win against Iowa State — Jones threw into the end zone to the two guys with the most career touchdowns on the team: Stills and Justin Brown. Yet Jones threw to nine receivers total.

That's like giving a team two quarterbacks to have to study for. And on top of that, it's tough to shut down a quarterback when his line is giving him the needed protection and his options are in the double digits.
