Oklahoma football: Sooners have done well despite preseason question marks
Coach Bob Stoops and quarterback Landry Jones are right. This is a different year and a different team.
Remember the postseason when Kenny Stills was the only one who had a Division I NCAA reception in an Oklahoma jersey? There was Sooner pandemonium about the wide receivers.
Now, Oklahoma is well afloat with six true wide receivers seeing catches. And don't forget there's still junior college transfer Lacoltan Bester and the two still-suspended playmakers from last year Jaz Reynolds and Trey Franks.
But Jones isn't just getting help from a long list of people in one aspect of his game. The Sooners have had eight different guys — including backup quarterback Blake Bell — cover yards on the ground.
This football team is well-rounded on the offense with solid recruits to help it out next year.
As for OU's defense, it's helped Jones and the offense to six wins and losses to the No. 3 and 4 teams in the country. Sooners fans just might not want to take a look at the list of recruits for the line next year.
Then again, if you buy into Bob Stoops' motto: next year is not this year.
