FORT WORTH, Texas — As Lane Johnson walked off the field, Oklahoma fans shouted their congratulations.
“We love our Sooners.” “Way to go Lane.”
The Sooners had beat the Horned Frogs in their first Big 12 matchup, 24-17.
The senior left tackle and his Sooners teammates were celebrating another conference title under OU coach Bob Stoops and the first title since Johnson's sophomore year.
It looked like you were butting heads with TCU defensive lineman Devonte Fields. What was he like?
He's a good player. He's only a freshman. I can only imagine what he's going to be like if he even makes it to his senior year. He could probably get drafted here in the next two years. One of the best d-ends I've played this year.
Describe the key block you put up for Damien William's long run.
It was an inside-zone play and the guy kind of headed to me so I just grabbed a hold and tried to drive him a little bit and Damien made an outside cut and just split the defense. It was probably one of my most memorable plays this year.
How much of a challenge have injuries been to the offensive line this year?
It's been tough people having to bounce around. Me having to play some right (tackle). Tyrus (Thompson) having to play some left. Gabe playing some left guard today. He knows Adam (Shead)'s having some problem with his back and ankles. Just dealing with some injuries it's been tough
You haven't dropped off in performance despite all those injuries.
Yeah. I think it's what OU does a great job of doing of recruiting guys that are versatile. Our o-line, I think, is the definition of versatility.
Are you going to go watch a football game?
I'm going to try to if we're not sleeping.
Are you going to cheer for Texas?
Yeah. No doubt.
