Oklahoma football: Sooners still No. 7 in coaches' poll

NORMAN — Following its 52-7 rout of Kansas, Oklahoma remained ranked No. 7 in the latest coaches’ top 25 poll released Sunday.

Next Saturday’s opponent, Notre Dame, is still ranked fifth after its 17-14 home win over BYU.

Texas moved back into the coaches’ poll at No. 24 following its shootout victory over Baylor. The Longhorns had fallen completely out of the poll after being routed by Oklahoma, 63-21, in the annual Red River Rivalry game on Oct. 13.

Despite back-to-back blowout losses to Texas Tech and Kansas State, once-Big 12 favorite West Virginia stayed in the coaches’ poll at No. 22.

Other Big 12 teams ranked include No. 4 Kansas State and No. 17 Texas Tech.

Oklahoma State, which beat Iowa State at home on Saturday, received the fifth-most votes among unranked teams.

The coaches’ poll and the Harris Interactive Poll make up the human component of the BCS standings, which determine the national championship game matchup at the end of the season. The first BCS standings were released last week, with Oklahoma at No. 9 and Notre Dame at No. 5.

In this week's Associated Press' top 25, Oklahoma rose one spot to No. 8. The AP poll does not have any impact on the BCS standings.

The Sooners started the season ranked in the top 5 but fell after losing 24-19 at home to Kansas State on Sept. 22. Since then, Oklahoma has won three straight games in convincing fashion, beginning with its 41-20 rout at Texas Tech on Oct. 6.
