NORMAN — Freshman wide receiver Jeffery Mead had made an early impression on co-offensive coordinator and receivers coach Jay Norvell.

Norvell said of the 6-foot-6, 184-pound Tulsa Union product: “I’ve never coached a kid that tall in my life.”

“He is an incredibly gifted athlete,” Norvell said. “He is extremely gifted agility-wise. He’s becoming a very good route runner already, and he really studies the game.”

Mead and fellow freshmen Dallis Todd and Mark Andrews are all capable talent-wise of playing this season, but Norvell said how much they’ll play remains to be seen.

“Those guys are all right on the cusp of probably having enough ability to play, but I don’t know how big a role they can earn with some of the guys in front of them,” Norvell said. “We’ve still got a couple weeks to figure that out.”
