NORMAN — Oklahoma kicks off its 2014 season at 6 p.m. against Louisiana Tech on Owen Field.
Here is the first of three pregame blog posts from Ryan Aber and I. Here, we each ask a pressing question that we hope to see answered in Saturday’s game.
ABER: How will Oklahoma’s secondary hold up?
There will be bigger challenges coming for OU’s pass defense soon but it’s never too early to look at what is considered the weak-line of the Sooners’ defense. Zack Sanchez figures to be more consistent at cornerback but Julian Wilson hasn’t played corner in awhile on the other side. Quentin Hayes was often overlooked last season but his role will grow as a senior at strong safety while Ahmad Thomas is seeing his first extensive action at free safety.
KERSEY: Which Trevor Knight will show up?
In his first career start almost a year ago to this date, Knight looked erratic and nervous in front of the big home crowd. Knight obviously grew and improved throughout last season, peaking with his Sugar Bowl MVP performance against Alabama. But in the spring game a few months later, Knight didn’t look very sharp with a host of new, inexperienced offensive weapons. Will Knight be more comfortable now with all the newcomers? The Sooners should win this game in a rout regardless, but tonight should show everyone whether Knight will be able to be more consistent in 2014.
