Oklahoma football: What they're saying about the Sooners' 51-20 win over Tulsa

Oklahoma beat Tulsa 51-20 Saturday on Owen Field to improve to 3-0 for the 2013 season.

Here's what some of the OU and Tulsa players and coaches had to say after the game:

Quarterback Blake Bell on his role this year compared to last year:

“In the package we had last year, it was more Landry (Jones) being the quarterback, me coming in and doing my job, which was third-and-short and goal-line, and some of that stuff was rough. That was more lowering your shoulder, taking a hit and getting what you can get. Out there now, some of those runs, you see me sliding or whatever, I don't want to take any of those unnecessary hits out in the middle of the field. There's definitely a happy medium.”

Senior center Gabe Ikard, on Bell's performance:

“When he didn't win the job, he could have handled it a lot of ways. He's one of those guys, instead of packing it up and giving up, he came to work every day in practice. Spent a lot of time in the film room, was ready to play every Saturday. Trevor getting banged up was his chance to start and prove himself.”

Sophomore receiver Sterling Shepard, on Bell's performance:

“I always knew what caliber and type of player Blake was. I know his work ethic. Every day, I'm with him throwing. We had stayed a little bit after practice this week. I knew he was going to come out and have a big one.”
