NORMAN — Oklahoma defenders Zack Sanchez, Eric Striker and Charles Tapper were named to the 2014 Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch list, released Thursday morning by the Football Writers Association of America.
The 81-man list included 13 from the Big 12 Conference, and the Sooners were one of 12 schools to land at least three players on it.
The Nagurski Trophy is awarded annually to college football’s best defensive player.
Sanchez was named a Freshman All-American by the FWAA after starting all 13 games last season. The cornerback recorded 46 tackles and two interceptions.
Striker, a junior linebacker, made his name as one of the nation’s elite pass rushers in 2013, when he recorded 6.5 sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss.
Tapper, a junior defensive end from Baltimore, started 12 games in 2013 and finished with 5.5 sacks.
