Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence awards banquet set for May 19

Oklahoma educators and students to be honored with cash prizes.

The Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence will honor five Oklahoma educators this month at its 26th annual Academic Awards Banquet.

The 2012 Oklahoma Medal for Excellence Awards in Teaching will be awarded to the following recipients:

• Teresa Potter, of Fisher Elementary School in Moore, for elementary education

• Elizabeth Ballard, of Norman High School, for secondary education

• Kathryn Turner, the recently retired superintendent of Fletcher Public Schools, for elementary and secondary administration

• Gladys Lewis, an English professor at the University of Central Oklahoma, for regional university and community college education

• Charles Abramson, a psychology professor at Oklahoma State University, for research university education

Each medal recipient will receive a $5,000 cash award as well as a glass sculpture.

In addition to the Medals for Excellence, 100 Academic All-State students will be honored. The students will receive medallions and $1,000 each. Seven Oklahoma high schools have Academic All-State students for the first time: Chattanooga, Hinton, Kellyville, Lone Wolf, Quinton, Savanna and Union City.
