Sixteen-year-old Braylee Rae Henry died of blunt force trauma to the head, the Stephens County sheriff said Monday.

Miles Sterling Bench, 21, is accused of killing Henry and leaving her body in a pasture east of Velma last week.

Bench was charged Monday with first-degree murder in Stephens County District Court. He was denied bail, Court Clerk Maggie Cunningham said.

Sheriff Wayne McKinney and District Attorney Jason Hicks would not comment on a motive for the crime.

Deputies went to the Tepee Totum convenience store Wednesday when they were notified the store clerk was missing at 8:30 p.m. They found a pool of blood in the back room and blood drops and smears throughout the store and out the front door, according to a probable cause affidavit.

While they were at the store, Jacky Henry filed a report that his daughter and her car were missing. She had gone to the convenience store to buy a soda pop, her mother said last week.

Investigators went to Bench's grandparent's house in Ratliff City. The grandfather said Bench had just been there, gathered some clothes and left on foot.

Deputies found Henry's body on the grandparents' property, the affidavit states.

Using the GPS system in Henry's car, officials tracked the car and Bench. He was stopped on Interstate 40 by a Custer County deputy, who arrested him.

Bench was wearing bloody clothes and there was blood in the car, the affidavit states.

Custer County officials said Bench told them he thought he killed someone.

A preliminary hearing for Bench is scheduled at 9 a.m. Aug. 13, Cunningham said.
