Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry offers support to residents displaced by wildfires

MIDWEST CITY — Gov. Brad Henry on Friday pledged to do anything necessary to help hundreds of state residents displaced by wildfires.

"Our hearts and prayers go out to all Oklahomans who have been negatively impacted by severe weather or the wildfires,” he said. "We will get through this and when we do we’ll be stronger than we were.”

Henry declared a state of emergency Friday in 31 counties, including one hit by a tornado and severe storms. The other counties included in the governor’s order were ravaged by wildfires.

Henry praised firefighters and other first responders for their efforts to control the flames that destroyed hundreds of homes and other structures.

Henry and other state officials toured Oakwood East Royale in Midwest City. He opted not to view the damage from the air so helicopters would be available for firefighting.
