Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry is asking for federal aid for Oklahomans affected by severe storms and flash floods earlier this month.
Henry asked the U.S. Small Business Administration on Thursday for a disaster declaration following flooding in Oklahoma County between July 6th and 12th. The request follows Wednesday's decision by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to deny individual assistance for those affected by the floods.
Emergency management officials say 226 homes and businesses were damaged by floodwaters and only about 2 percent had federal flood insurance.
An SBA declaration would allow for low-interest loans for renters, homeowners and business owners to repair or replace property not covered by insurance or other assistance programs.
