NOBLE — An Oklahoma high school student says he wants to take a turkey back to the county fair after Gov. Mary Fallin pardoned the bird.

Noble High School senior Dustin Mullinix bought Bubba the turkey in June as part of a class project. A local newspaper reports that Mullinix turned to the governor for help after his mother expressed interest in having the bird for Thanksgiving dinner.

Fallin pardoned the turkey earlier this month.

Mullinix says Bubba is already on a diet ahead of next year's Cleveland County Fair.

The bird placed first in his class and second in his division in a poultry competition in September. Mullinix said Bubba would have won another award but he was too fat to stand up during judging.
