NORMAN — Oklahoma junior shooting guard Steven Pledger will be suspended for the season opener because of a violation of playing in an impermissible pro-am game this past summer.

Pledger will not suit up against Idaho State Friday night because he didn't properly register for a pro-am game he would have been eligible to play in.

After averaging 10.9 points last season, the 6-foot-4 sharpshooter from Chesapeake, Va., is one of the top candidates to lead the Sooners in scoring this season.

Pledger will be reinstated for OU's second game Nov. 18 against Coppin State.
