The Oklahoma Health Center Foundation is urging Gov. Brad Henry to veto legislation that could ban embryonic stem cell research in the state.

"As one of those responsible for keeping the University of Oklahoma and the state of Oklahoma in a leadership position in medical research, as well as assisting those who face serious medical problems, I urge the governor to veto House Bill 1326,” said Joseph J. Ferretti, a member of the foundation and senior vice president and provost of the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. "This legislation creates an image of being anti-research at a time when we are seeking to diversify the state’s economy and create new jobs through research.”

Last week, the executive committee of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber also urged Henry to veto the bill.
