Troopers plan to boost patrols

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is planning extra patrols across the state for heavy Memorial Day weekend traffic on roadways and lakes.

Troopers will “hit the roads with vigilance,” patrol Capt. George Brown said. The enhanced Memorial Day weekend patrols will start Friday and continue through midnight Monday.

During the 2013 Memorial Day holiday period, seven people died as a result of five vehicle crashes on Oklahoma roadways.

Increased boat patrols on state lakes are anticipated as well, Brown reported.

Troopers are reminding boaters to use life jackets and avoid operating boats while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
