DEL CITY – The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has released the names of the troopers involved Saturday morning's fatal shooting.
Trooper Ryan Smith, an eight-year Oklahoma Highway Patrol veteran, and Trooper Chris Bunch, a one-year veteran, were the troopers injured in a gun battle after a pursuit in the Oklahoma City metro area, Oklahoma Highway Patrol spokesman Capt. George Brown said.
Smith was shot in the face and is expected to recover from his injuries. He is expected to remain in an Oklahoma City hospital a few more days, Brown said.
Bunch was injured in the leg and has been since released from the hospital, Brown said.
The chase started on an Interstate 35 service road near SE 29 in Oklahoma City and ended near Interstate 40 and Sunnylane Road in Del City. At the end of the chase, a man got out of his car and exchanged fire with troopers, said Lt. Brian Orr, Oklahoma Highway Patrol spokesman.
The man, whose identity has not been released, was killed in the shootout.
