TULSA — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has released the names of the trooper and the man killed in an officer-involved shooting Saturday in Tulsa.
The man killed has been identified as Tel Levi Rodgers, 33, of Claremore, and the trooper involved in the incident is identified as Bobby Raines, 28, of Sapulpa, Capt. George Brown said.
The incident occurred about 9 p.m. when the trooper attempted to stop a vehicle near 33rd West Avenue and 61st Street, Brown said.
Rodgers fled on foot, and Raines pursued him. The trooper and the man got into an altercation and the man reached for the trooper's gun, Brown said. Raines fired twice, hitting Rodgers in the chest and the head, he said. Rodgers was pronounced dead at the scene.
Raines has been a state trooper for one and a half years. He has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the results of the internal investigation, Brown said.
