Oklahoma House members oppose health care bill

From Staff Reports    Comments Comment on this article15
Published: November 7, 2009

Rep. Dan Boren, D-Muskogee: "As I have told my constituents since August, I could not vote for health care legislation that included a public option, burdensome mandates on businesses or the possibility of taxpayer funded abortion."

NewsOK Related Articles

Rep. Tom Cole, R-Moore: "This bill does not include common sense health care reforms that Oklahomans do support, such as tort reform and the establishment of tax deductions for individual purchasers. Oklahomans rightly believe the (House Speaker Nancy) Pelosi health care bill is a giant step backwards and it's one that I don't support."

Rep. Mary Fallin, R-Oklahoma City: "Unfortunately, what Speaker Pelosi rammed through the House does nothing to curb rising costs. Instead, her bill seizes control of the health care industry and puts it in the hands of the federal government, introduces job killing taxes on individuals and small businesses and accelerates deficit spending and the accumulation of national debt."

Rep. Frank Lucas, R-Cheyenne: "Over the last several months, millions of Americans have expressed their strong opposition to this legislation. Yet Speaker Pelosi and her leadership team have once again ignored the will of the people and forced this trillion dollar government takeover of our health care system on them."

Rep. John Sullivan, R-Tulsa: "Let's be very clear about what this bill does: It writes the American people a prescription for disaster by spending more, taxing more and letting Washington bureaucrats make health care decisions that are better left to you and your families."

ken, I realize you have a huge chip on your shoulder and that your thinking process is clouded by your hatred of the system...Not even the great messiah, BHO, will change the system to his liking. I never thought he would be so dumb to let himself be blind sided in NJ & VA. As for the Gaylords, few families have contributed so much generation after generation than the Gaylord family. If it sounds as though I worked for the dok, I did.....for three years as a delivery boy for the Oklahoman & the Times....taught me a lot of lessons at a very young age.IE, more people than not will try to cheat their paper boy out of their monthly bill.....in those days it was up to the delivery boy to collect and pay for his papers...It's nice to learn about dead beats at an early age so there are fewer surprises as you become an adult.

Basically GOPer's believe if you don't have health insurance you must be morally inferior therefore it is you own fault if you get laid off lose you health insurance, get sick , go bankrupt. Let's have more insurance company bureaucracy telling how we get medical care. Yeaahh, that's it just so the ghost of E.K. Gaylord can smile on his congress critter children he still owns.

Everybodys taxes are going up, quality of health care is going down with our freedom and liberty decreasing through government intervention. Stealing from others, compounding our national debt, destroying millions of private sector jobs and implementing government control over individual choice is not admirable. Socialism through Liberalism continues to be Americas demise.

Wow, what else is new from the party of NO. Hypocrites. They always say NO ,but never really tell us what they DO want in healthcare reform. Tom Cole is an "Apple" sell out.

A 2.2 percent profit margin for insurance companies are smoke and mirrors? At most some companies made 5%. The railroads make a 12 % profit. I think we should have a national railroad to cut costs and be more competitive. Oops! I forgot the railroads are already subsidized by the people. Truck drivers pay about $500 a year for the priviledge to compete with railroads. The latest annual profit margins of a selection of products, services and industries: Tupperware Brands, 7.5 percent; Yahoo, 5.9 percent; Hershey, 6.1 percent; Clorox, 8.7 percent; Molson Coors Brewing, 8.1 percent; construction and farm machinery, 5 percent; Yum Brands (think KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell), 8.5 percent. http://www.aol.in/news-story/fact-check-health-insurer-profits-not-so-fat/638358

Well, the president had already mention during his speech that he promise it won't increase the deficit on a dime. Except, those you of might feared it will raise taxes. For me, I can't wait to get my tax refund check.

this issue has been ginned up two groups and oklahomans have fallen for their smoke & mirrors hook, line and sinker: the insurance industry so that they could protect their BILLIONS in profits and continue to play games with people's lives. and the partisan republicans so they could create havoc for a president that they absolutely hate and score perceived political points in the process.
***** Our country will be better off once we make providing access to health care for every single human a priority. As someone earlier pointed out, we will be dragged into doing the right thing kicking and screaming, but at the end of the day, we will all be better for it.

Other than distracting by calling profane names, tell me how this bill will help us? How are more taxes and penalties helpful? How will another 1 trillion plus to the deficit help us?

When the AMA and the AARP signed off on it the deal was done. I suspected the AMA might go this route considering the fallout that put all the power in the insurance carriers hands after the Clinton era try at universal health insurance. It's not the end of the world. If every first world country but hours has universal health care then maybe it's time we were dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century.
