Oklahoma kicker Michael Hunnicutt on Lou Groza Award watch list

by Ryan Aber Published: July 10, 2013

Award watch lists don’t mean a lot before the season starts but Oklahoma keeps adding players as the watch lists for various awards are released this week.

Blake Bell was named to the Maxwell Award watch list, Aaron Colvin to the Bednarik Award and Gabe Ikard to the Rimington Award watch lists earlier in the week.

Wednesday, Sooners kicker Michael Hunnicutt was one of 30 kickers named to the watch list for the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award.

Hunnicutt hit 17 of 21 field goals as a sophomore last year, with a long of 45. He made 57 of 59 extra-point tries. Hunnicutt led the nation with 10 field goals between 30 and 39 yards.

Hunicutt is one of two Big 12 kickers on the list, joining TCU’s Jaden Oberkrom.

Notre Dame’s Kyle Brindza is also on the list. The Sooners will play the Fighting Irish on Sept. 28.

Tulane’s Cairo Santos won the award last year and returns after hitting all 21 field goal tries. Florida State’s Sebastian Janikowski (1998-99) is the only player to win the award twice.
