A worker for a lab that contracts with Oklahoma County to perform drug testing is accused of falsifying urine samples for money, court records show.

Compliance Resource Group operates the lab, which contracts with Oklahoma County's drug court program, prosecutors said.

John A. Barfield, 24, of Newalla, was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Oklahoma County jail on eight complaints of false preparation of exhibits as evidence and five counts of violating the Oklahoma computer crimes act, records show.

He was released Thursday on $26,000 bail, a detention officer said.

He could not be reached for comment Friday.

Barfield is accused of fixing drug tests for money between Dec. 1 and Jan. 29 and using his cellphone to facilitate the transactions, according to prosecutors and a probable cause affidavit.

Barfield, the affidavit states, was paid by a confidential informant for his action in “falsifying the evidence.”

Barfield falsified records to show clean urine samples when no urinalysis was actually done, a prosecutor said Friday.

Lab director Jim Tedrow said Compliance Resource Group is cooperating with authorities.

“The integrity of our testing process has always been and will continue to be of the utmost importance,” Tedrow said.

Tedrow declined to discuss Barfield's employment status, except to say, “To the best of my knowledge, there are no allegations against our current employees.”
