Stipe fights for assets

An attorney representing former state Sen. Gene Stipe of McAlester wants a judge to prohibit Stipe’s estranged business partner from transferring money and property that the attorney contends belong to Stipe. Those are the latest filings in the lawsuit filed by McAlester attorney Eddie Harper, in his capacity as the guardian of Stipe’s property, against Steve Covington. The latest filings on Stipe’s behalf were made by Tulsa attorney John Carwile, who has also previously represented Stipe in court. Carwile alleges a number of transactions occurred in which nearly $2 million in cash or assets belonging to Stipe were transferred.
