The Oklahoma-made musical drama “Rudderless” will be released in theaters and on demand Oct. 17, according the film’s Facebook page.
IMDB has exclusively released the film’s new poster, which you can see here: imdb.to/1r6Z74d.
“Rudderless” stars Billy Crudup as Sam, a grieving, alcoholic father whose ex-wife (Macy’s Academy Award-nominated wife Felicity Huffman) gives him a box of their deceased son’s original music. In the aftermath of his boy’s tragic death, Sam forms a band so he can give voice and life to the music. Edmond-based filmmakers Jeff Robison and Casey Twenter wrote the screenplay.
The film, which was shot in Oklahoma City and Guthrie last year, marks the directorial debut of Oscar-nominated actor William H. Macy.
“So many people in Oklahoma helped with this film, and I can say without exaggeration we could not have made the film anywhere else but here,” Macy said during a private cast and crew screening in June at AMC Quail Springs 24 in OKC.
“I’ve shot in a lot of places, and this is what it’s like in most of them: You say, ‘Excuse me, but we’re filming here. Could you mow your lawn later?’ And they say ‘F you’ and you usually have to go to them with hundred-dollar bills to get them to stop mowing their lawn. It was the opposite here: Nobody mowed his or her lawn,” he joked.
“I can’t tell you how warmly we were greeted here. And I thank you from the bottom of my heart. And I think we did something. I got to see the film the night before last, and somehow since Sundance, it’s gotten better.”
Along with Hollywood standouts Anton Yelchin, Selena Gomez and Oscar nominee Laurence Fishburne, local musicians Travis Linville, Casey and Minna, Chelsey Cope and Tara Dillard make brief yet tuneful appearances in the movie.
After making its world premiere at January’s Sundance Film Festival, Paramount acquired North American rights for “Rudderless.” The musical drama will receive its theatrical run through Samuel Goldwyn Co.
As previously reported, “Rudderless” was made in Oklahoma using the state’s 35 percent Film Enhancement Rebate.
