"She said she'd leave the back door open for me and stuff, and then she showed me where the knives are at," Jerry Jerone Chiles Jr. said. "She said, please, please can I do it.
"I said, 'yeah.'"
Chiles was testifying at the preliminary hearing in Logan County District Court for Kaleigh Lynn Fryer. Both are charged with the May 13 stabbing death of Lewis Keith Fryer Jr., 42.
Chiles has struck a deal with prosecutors to plead guilty to murder in exchange for his testimony against Kaleigh Fryer and a sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole. He could have faced the death penalty.
Logan County District Attorney Rob Hudson said the deal was struck to make sure all parties involved are punished.
"We need his testimony to present the best case to the jury," Hudson said.
Fryer's attorney, Eric Reynolds, said Chiles' testimony is hearsay and not very credible.
"He admitted on the stand to having sex with a minor," Reynolds told reporters after the hearing ended for the day.
"In the end a jury is going to come to understand he is the type of person that's going to say anything to help himself."
During Chiles' testimony, Kaleigh Fryer mostly sat with her head down and her back to her co-
The preliminary hearing will continue on Aug. 30.
A plot revealed
On May 13, police found Lewis Fryer dead in his Guthrie home at 401 W Orbit. His daughter had called 911.
He had been stabbed in the back and neck.
Chiles testified he had been dating Kaleigh Fryer about four months before she first asked him to kill her father, about two weeks before Lewis Fryer's death.
"We were just talking, hanging out, chillin,'" Chiles said. "She said that her dad was mean to her. She said I could probably stay with her and her mom."
Chiles said he was living with friends at the time.
A couple of days before May 13, Kaleigh Fryer again asked if he would kill her father, Chiles said.
"She just asked me if I was going to do it before the weekend," Chiles testified. "She said she'd leave the door open for me."
Fryer also told Chiles she was pregnant, Chiles said. Chiles said he had sex with Fryer four or five times.
Reynolds said his client was not pregnant, but thought she was and may have let Chiles know.
In 2007, Chiles married a 16-year-old, according to Logan County Court records. About six months later, the girl filed a protective order in Payne County District Court against Chiles, but it was dismissed when no one appeared in court a few weeks later. There are no divorce records on file.
The relationship was not discussed in court on Thursday and Chiles' attorney, Al Hoch, said he never asked his client about it.
Crime committed
Chiles said that about 3 a.m. on May 13 he entered the Fryers' home through the back door and from the hallway he saw Lewis Fryer was sleeping.
He went and got a knife.
"I had the knife and then I started walking toward Mr. Fryer's room," Chiles testified. "I started going to his room and I was getting nervous and I started sweating a lot."
Chiles said he turned away but would eventually head back to Lewis Fryer's room.
"I walked over to his bed," Chiles testified. "I stood there for a minute, then I saw his arm move and I just started swinging the knife."
The two struggled, Chiles said, adding "I started swinging it (the knife) and he fell to the ground."
Chiles said he left in Lewis Fryer's car and drove to Oklahoma City. He left the car about a mile from Crossroads Mall, according to court records. He said he then used a pay phone inside the mall to call Kaleigh Fryer.
"She said there were a lot of blood," he said. "She said she was going to call police."
Chiles was arrested later that day at Crossroads Mall. During questioning he admitted killing Lewis Fryer and implicated Kaleigh Fryer in the plot, according to court records.
