— A man who drowned at Lake Thunderbird Sunday has been identified as Michael Lewis Thomas, 25, of Newalla.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported Thomas was swimming across a cove at Post Oak Campgrounds on the east side of Lake Thunderbird when he went under. His brother, James Thomas, 27, saw him go under and tried to find him, troopers said.

James Thomas was unsuccessful in locating his brother and overexerted himself while trying. He was taken to Norman Regional Hospital for treatment after others pulled him from the water, the patrol said.

Lake Patrol officers responded to a call about the drowning at 3:35 p.m. The body was recovered about 5:30 p.m. 100 yards offshore in about 14 feet of water.

The patrol reported the victim was not wearing a life vest. has disabled the comments for this article.
