TALIHINA (AP) — A patient who died after the medical helicopter he was on crashed has been identified as 49-year-old Michael David Wilson of Bethel.

It was not yet determined Thursday whether Wilson died as a result of Tuesday's crash of a medical helicopter or if he died of previous injuries. Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma public safety director John Hobbs says Wilson's body was sent to the state medical examiner's office.

A spokeswoman for the medical examiner did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The McCurtain Gazette has reported that Wilson was injured earlier Tuesday when he fell from a scaffold while working at Battiest Assembly of God Church.

The helicopter crashed as it was taking off to transport Wilson to a Tulsa hospital. Three others on the aircraft were injured.
