Wellness classes offered

The Oklahoma City-County Health Department is offering free total wellness classes. The Total Wellness Program provides the tools to learn how to delay or prevent the onset of chronic diseases by helping people change their eating and exercise habits. Classes will meet for one hour each week for 12 weeks. Participants will be encouraged to set goals of losing 5 percent of their body weight and becoming active for 2 1/2 hours per week. Space is limited, and classes are filling up fast. Anyone interested in the classes can call 425-4352 or email Total_Wellness@occhd.org.

Health, medical boards meet Tuesday

The Oklahoma State Board of Health will meet Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Oklahoma State Department of Health building at 1000 NE 10 St. in Room 1102. The board will discuss the board's finances and public health policy, among other things. The board has on its agenda to go into executive session to discuss the annual performance evaluation for the commissioner of health and other health leaders. Also in executive session, the board might discuss a court case involving Planned Parenthood. The meeting is open to the public. Also this upcoming week, the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision and the Oklahoma Health Care Authority will both meet Thursday. Both meetings are open to the public.
