MEDICAL NOTES
Scholarship deadline is near
The application period for the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation's 2013 Sir Alexander Fleming Scholar Program closes Feb. 1. High school seniors and college freshmen, sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply. Applicants must be at least 16 and Oklahoma residents at the time of high school graduation to qualify. Students who are selected for this competitive program will be paid and, if eligible, will receive free housing. In addition to laboratory training, scholars will attend lectures by and have interaction with several OMRF researchers. Students selected as Fleming scholars will spend eight weeks working in OMRF's state-of-the-art research laboratories alongside senior-level scientists.
Dental clinic set for Lawton
Free dental care for adults and children who might not have access to regular dental care will be offered at the fourth annual Oklahoma Mission of Mercy event scheduled Feb. 1 and Feb. 2 at the Great Plains Coliseum in Lawton. This two-day clinic is designed to meet the critical needs of dental patients of all ages by providing free dental care to as many adults and children as time, volunteers and supplies will allow. Donated dental care will be available on a first come, first served basis. No preregistration is required. The first 1,000 people through the doors will qualify each day.
