Oklahoma mothers of the year to be honored
Two Oklahoma mothers will be honored at 3 p.m. April 6 in the Blue Room at the state Capitol.
American Mothers Inc., a national organization that strives to strengthen families through education and service, has selected Irene Castilow as 2009 Oklahoma Mother of the Year and Shelly Soliz as 2009 Young Mother of the Year. The women were selected for their exemplary service to their families and the community. Soliz, a Yukon resident, is a community volunteer and said she believes her job as a parent is to help her 16-year-old twin sons, Dalton and Victor, become successful by teaching them to become independent, happy and contributing adults. She said she involves them in volunteer activities whenever possible. Castilow, a resident of the Yukon and Mustang areas for 33 years, has dedicated her life to being an advocate for families with special-needs children. She is a popular inspirational speaker at women’s events and has been a featured author in many inspirational books.
