Dog wash to benefit group

The Chemistry Club at Southwestern Oklahoma State University will hold a dog wash from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Tractor Supply Weatherford, 1200 E Eagle Road. Proceeds will benefit the Friends for Life Animal Society, an organization dedicated to providing caring, safe and loving environments for abused and abandoned animals. Donations will be accepted starting at $10, and various services will be offered. To learn more about Friends for Life, check out www.okfflas.org.

Final jazz concert set

The Southwestern Oklahoma State University Music Department’s final jazz concert of the school year is planned for 3 p.m. Sunday in the Fine Arts Center on the Weatherford campus. Admission is free. Featured students are Samantha Canon, tenor sax, of Enid; Austin Hardman, trumpet, of Guymon; and Joaquin Martinez, trumpet, of Anadarko. For more information, call (580) 774-3780.

Tulsa

Auditions set for musical

A musical based on the life of one of the most influential women in Cherokee history will be presented in August when the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Tulsa hosts “Nanyehi — Beloved Woman of the Cherokee.” “Nanyehi” is the story of Nancy Ward, who was first honored in the 18th century as a Cherokee war woman, then as a peacemaker during the American Revolution. Auditions will be held at the Fly Loft from 10 to 11:30 a.m. May 3 for children ages 4 to 15 and 1 to 5 p.m for adults. Auditions will resume 1 to 5 p.m May 4. The Fly Loft is at 117 N Boston Ave. The auditions will consist of readings from the script and a song of the singer's choice. Singers should bring their own accompanist, or can sing a cappella. A keyboard and CD player will be provided. Principals will receive stipends ranging from $500 to $2,500, depending on the role. Nonpaying cast roles also are available.
