Foundation grants $104,900

The Oklahoma City Community Foundation Trustees recently approved $104,900 in grants to eight nonprofit organizations. The grants were awarded through the Opportunities for Children iFund grant program that is administered by the Oklahoma City Community Foundation. The program supports grants to organizations in central Oklahoma that provide direct services for children. The grants were awarded to Citizens Caring for Children, El Reno Youth and Family Services, Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma, Oklahoma Children’s Theatre, Oklahoma City University's Community Dance Center, Peppers Ranch, Positive Tomorrows and Prairie Dance Theatre.

Myriad gets art exhibit

Howell Gallery has teamed with Myriad Botanical Gardens to bring a fine art exhibit to the south lobby of the Crystal Bridge. “Kim Robbins: Blossoms for the Soul” is on display through Aug. 10, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays. A free public opening will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 17. “Expanding on her talent as a portrait photographer, Robbins has discovered a passion for artistic expression. She masterfully captures nature, and through digital processing, adds her own unique flair to the pieces she creates,” said Laura Howell Tirrell, director of the Howell Gallery.

Miami

Marshal sees sentence

A Quapaw tribal marshal received a year-deferred sentence Monday after pleading guilty in Ottawa County District Court to a misdemeanor charge of carrying a firearm while under the influence. Rodney Lynn Kingfisher, 42, of Miami, OK, was charged after he reportedly was found slumped over in the back seat of his tribal vehicle in uniform and wearing his gun belt and firearm. A misdemeanor charge of actual physical control of a vehicle while under the influence, a misdemeanor, was dismissed.
