Inmate found

after escape

Authorities say an Oklahoma inmate led officers on a high-speed chase after escaping from a Lexington correctional facility and stealing a Department of Corrections van. Authorities say David Hammock, 25, who was serving sentences for burglary and arson convictions, escaped Tuesday afternoon. Police say the pursuit ended when Hammock crashed the van into an Oklahoma Highway Patrol unit. No one was seriously injured. Corrections Department spokesman Jerry Massie said the van was from the maintenance area of the facility.

Fight injuries

kill chimp

The Tulsa Zoo reports one of its chimpanzees has died after a fight with other chimpanzees. Zoo officials say 20-year-old Alvin got into an altercation Saturday with other males over a female chimpanzee. Alvin suffered cuts to his hands and feet and other defensive wounds, but was responsive and eating and drinking normally after the fight. He stopped breathing Tuesday morning and was pronounced dead, officials said. A necropsy shows that Alvin suffered from cardiac disease and had kidney impairment. The zoo says stress from the fight and injuries, coupled with heart disease, led to Alvin's death.
