With 1:39 remaining in the first half of Oklahoma’s Sugar Bowl victory over Alabama last month, Sooner coaches called a timeout after the defense lined up incorrectly for a third down play.
After the timeout was called, junior nickelback Julian Wilson and senior safety Gabe Lynn started screaming at each other in a confrontation that looked like it might turn physical.
In a recent interview, Wilson sought to clear that up for the public.
“First things first, that’s football; people argue,” Wilson said, before smiling and adding, “But I was right. … I want to clear that up for everybody.”
Wilson said the spat was blown out of proportion.
“That’s the media,” he said. “That’s how they work. It’s a little argument. If ya’ll had cameras on the sideline, we argue like that every series.
“That just happened. Heat of the moment, the camera was on us and it happened. But the next play, we were out there playing with each other, getting ready.”
