Oklahoma nominations being accepted for mental health award
Nominations are being accepted until Monday for the “Eliminate the Stigma” award, which honors an individual or group who support the mentally ill.
Time is running out to nominate a deserving candidate for the Dr. R. Murali Krishna Family “Eliminate the Stigma” award.
The award recognizes those who do not work professionally in the mental health field but give “time, support (and) compassion” to those affected by brain disorders, Gail Israel, development coordinator, said in an email.
Nominees may be individuals or organizations. Generally, a single winner is chosen and awarded the $1,000 prize, Israel said; it is possible that an individual and a group will be named winners, and the cash prize will be split between them.

The goal is to eliminate the stigma attached to mental illness, which afflicts about 60 million Americans, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
Nominations will be accepted until Monday, although Israel said there is a chance the deadline will be extended.
