Oklahoma & Okahoma State football: Nation's top-ranked receiver Laquon Treadwell has Sooners, Cowboys in his final three

RECRUITING -- OU, Oklahoma State and Ole Miss appear to be Laquon Treadwell's finalists coming off the top-rated high school receiver's visit to Oklahoma last weekend. Treadwell plans a visit to Oklahoma State on Jan. 11.

“I've seen some highlights of him; he's really good,” Smallwood said. “It'd be great to bring another receiver in, another big guy.

“I can see how he does his stuff, and he can see how I do my stuff. ... We could gel and play on the same field together and really do some damage.”

Treadwell is no longer considering Michigan, which leaves his list of potential schools at three — Ole Miss, OU and OSU.

Sunday, Treadwell tweeted, “Rocking #1 next year, with who? Soon to find out.”

He has yet to visit Oklahoma State, but told Rivals.com he's planning a Jan. 11 trip to Stillwater.

The Cowboys have three receiver commits, all four-star prospects from Texas: Marcell Ateman (Wylie), Fred Ross (John Tyler) and Ra'Shaad Samples (Dallas Skyline).

Treadwell's primary OSU recruiter, former offensive coordinator Todd Monken, was named Southern Miss' head coach last week; before his Norman visit, Treadwell expressed concern over the uncertainty surrounding OSU coach Mike Gundy, who was linked to job openings at Arkansas and Tennessee.

“It concerned me a lot, but I haven't had a chance to talk to him about it,” Treadwell told Rivals.com in early December. “It was a concern going forward knowing that a coach recruiting me was going to leave, but everything should be fine now.”
