OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The fine for littering would be doubled from $200 to $400 under a bill approved by a Senate committee.

The Senate General Government voted 8-0 on Monday for the bill by Democratic Sen. Roger Ballenger of Okmulgee. The bill now heads to the full Senate for consideration.

Ballenger says the increase was needed to make the fine more meaningful. The bill further states that the fine would be in addition to any court costs imposed on violators.
