Oklahoma Pet Tales: Three dogs steal their way into family members’ hearts

We have had quite a few cucumbers in our garden. But lately, it seemed as if they were simply disappearing. We would see some almost ready to pick, and then they would be gone. But I was able to catch on camera the three thieves: our precious dogs!

We are a family of eight with three boys and three dogs (Watson, Emily and Sam). We got Watson from a friend who needed to find homes for mutt puppies. He is the sweetest dog you will ever meet.

Not long after we got Watson, I thought he’d like another dog to play with, so I went to the Pets for Friends Web site and found a cocker spaniel. I went the next day to look. I was disappointed when I was told the dog was away for grooming that day. But they asked whether I’d be interested in seeing a different cocker spaniel. I said yes, and they brought out the ugliest dog I had ever seen. She was found on the streets, just skin and bones and with very little hair, from malnourishment. They asked whether I would like to take her for a walk. I reluctantly agreed. I instantly fell in love. Emily held her head high and walked as if she were the most beautiful dog in the world and I were her best friend. I had to take her home. She fattened up, grew lots of hair and was a good addition to our family.

I told my husband we needed to get another dog for Emily to play with since she is a ball of energy and loves to run and play, and Watson really doesn’t.
